Vendor Updates
The 2017 College Hill Farm Market is in full swing! Right now, North Oaks Farm has incredible blueberries, jams, and beets. Back Acres Farm is offering a vast array of seasonal produce, including beans, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and cabbage. Seeders and Feeders (who you can ONLY find at the College Hill Farm Market) is bringing seasonal produce grown by volunteers at St. Paul UCC. Shadeau not only has breads (above), but also unbelievable, buttery pastries. Like Mom’s Only Vegan, Aunt Flora’s, and Mai Ro and Co all offer samples to help you decide on your cookies, cobblers, and dog treats (respectively). J&R Southern Grill tempts us each week with grilled and smoked meats and delicious sides (and we often give in). Bright Soapworks’ has superior soap in a variety of scents that put your grocery store soap to shame. Did you know that Gaiser Bee Company just had a baby last Thursday? We are looking forward to seeing them back at the market soon with all their local honey, a wide range of honey products, and a new family member!
Just Earth Performs
This week, we welcome Just Earth to the market. They have been performing together for 10 years in Cincinnati, sharing their songs and desires for a better world. Their name reflects what they sing for: social justice and sustainability for this, our one and only planet. Singing in the tradition of music for social change, they are inspired by Holly Near, Bernice Johnson Reagan, Pete Seeger and many more. They hope their songs move you to love more, understand more, act more and sing more!
Product Spotlight: Cabbage
Cabbage is a close relative of kale, broccoli, and brussels sprouts and, like all cruciferous vegetables, it is packed with nutrition. The uses for cabbage extend far beyond coleslaw, cabbage rolls, and cabbage soup. One of the recipes below cooks the cabbage with plenty of caramelized onions and sausage, the other adds coconut milk, curry powder, and sweet potato for a somewhat tropical and luscious dish. The final recipe calls for raw cabbage marinated in a flavorful ginger-, garlic-, and rice vinegar-based dressing and mixed with rice noodles, peanuts, and cilantro.
